January 2016 ATC Session @Bishan Library

Our first ATC session of the year kick-started with origami folding for Chinese New Year.
Everyone is folding the God of Wealth, have you tried?  Here's a video  https://youtu.be/XRVaGl3k9G4
I did the top 3 ATCs, and traded for Pei Ling's "What Are You Looking At" and Selina's "Monkeys".

Our next ATC session will be on 11 Feb (Thu). The theme will be "Sweet Whispers".  I'm looking forward to weave patterned hearts in the session with everyone!

A Few ATC and Christmas Swaps

There was a set of missing ATCs in the earlier Round Robin swap over at Paper Traders. On the replacement set that came, I added origami morning glory,  paper cutting umbrella, saxophone and leaf. And off they went to the 4th person for more embellishment.
Love owls?  I'm so happy to receive these owl ATCs from Debra Claxton (USA) - top piece, and Eileen K (USA) - bottom pieces, from the Paper Traders Oct ATC speed round swap.
I did mine with a tatted owl.
Eileen also generously enclosed extra ATCs she did for a few previous swaps. Oh, wow!
For the Christmas ATC swap hosted by Nikki Smith (USA), I sent these.. the wrapped up one, with the ATC booklet on quotes on gifting, is meant as a secret Santa exchange.  I also sent along a tatted flower which I hope Nikki will like.

Received my Christmas swap from [going clockwise from top-left corner] Jo Murray (Australia), Barb Adams (USA), Susan Peeler (USA) and Nikki.  The bottom ATC is my secret Santa piece from Barb.
I didn't have much time to do more Christmas crafts, only tatted holly and berries for 2 large wooden pegs and folded a troop of Santa Claus.  Christmas came and past in a wink!

Kristine does have a flair for drawing, don't you think?  These, she drew on A3 or bigger papers.  After these, she is now working on paper clay.  Last few days to play before school starts!

December ATC Session @Bishan Library

We have come to our last session for the year.  I found a few interesting Christmas origami models and a very cute Santa Claus. So, we were folding away during our last ATC session.
Christmas ATCs I did this year with iris folding and origami.
The smallest Santa is done with 1.5cm squares.

Keethi, who just learnt tatting from me, found out about our ATC session, did this Christmas ATC.
Theme for 8 Jan 2015 ATC session is "New Year".

Nov 2013 - Feb 2014 ATC Sessions in Bishan Library

Back to our ATC sessions in Bishan Library. I brought the group through zentangles in the Nov session and Wee Yeh conducted a brick block printing in the Dec session.

The theme for Nov was"Fantasy". I traded my butterfly fairy for Richard's mouse deer.

We started the year with Rita showing us the folding of an origami angelfish during the Jan session.
In line with the fish theme, I used plastic strap to weave some fish for my ATCs.
Here's what I managed for the angelfish during the session, and the ATCs I swapped for with Mdm Au and Jessica.

We had a mini-book making session this last Thu with Maureen, Jessica and Serena.

Here are my attempts, covers embellished with tatted flowers and butterflies.
The theme for Feb was "love".  I added a straw-weaved heart to some quotes I like.
I love this quilled heart ATC by Mdm Au. A melody of flowers within the heart!

We'll be meeting again next month on 13 Mar (Thu), 6.30 pm.  Rita will be doing stamping technique with us - masking and layering. The theme for the ATC is "My Wish For You".

My First Paper Postcard Swap. Lots of Origami.

I joined a postcard swap - collage word.  First time I did postcards (6" x 4") with paper medium. I cut the word "BLOSSOMING" from a Korean magezine and mounted the alphabets into a bloom.  The watercoloured background had the words "flower . bud . bloom . blossom" translated into 29 languages.

All the participants came up with the unique concepts and interesting pieces - some with great quotes, some with pretty wordscapes.  I received from Cathy Calamas (USA) - "Finding My Wow".  The 2nd piece from Bev Baird hasn't arrive and may have gone astray :(

Joined another 2 ATC swaps at Paper Traders.  1 is "Map Mania".  Of the 4 I sent, the taxi in "Discover S'pore" can move up and down by pulling the string, The blocks of flats and and people can "pop up" in the bottom right card, while the girl will wobble in the other 2 cards.
As usual, I'm keeping a set of cards for myself.

The other swap is "Wings and Things".  I wanted to use my new die-cuts (the little boy and little girl), so I ended up with butterflies fairy boys and girls!  I spent a whole day rolling them out, assembling and gluing them - real tedious.  Then I found these flat origami roses which I adore and folded 18 of them straight.

Tatted another 18 tiny butterflies for a little surprise at the back of the ATCs.

Incidentally, Joey also spent a whole night folding these origami animals as a response to a article for a school project.

Guess I'll just post the photos of my humble collection of thimbles. When someone from a group was talking about collecting thimbles recently, I found mine sitting nicely in a glass container in a forgotten corner.  I do have more thimbles than these - plastic ones, leather ones, metal ones - meant for working purpose, whereas these 6 are purely just for collection.  Don't ask me where I bought them as they are more than 10 years old, probably closer to 20 years. Oh yes, the windmill does move!
