Tatting Meet-Up at Toa Payoh

We had another gathering yesterday afternoon at Sizzler Toa Payoh. Jacky was sick and Wendy couldn't make it. But we still have a new member - Rei, a full time working mom with 2 young children. Rei bakes a lot and just started tatting - here's her blog with lots of recipes and her new blog for tatting. We had lunch and chatted, we were most excited about Jullie's pregnancy, giving her lots of tips on her coming delivery, confinement, baby care, baby food, ....

Ok, we didn't forget to tat. All came prepared to do my little tree design. Here's the 3 of them working hard on it.
And these were what we managed. (From left) Aileen finished the tree and added a star bead at the top - ingenious! Next is mine in pearl cotton size 8. Rei is a beginner and she managed to tat the split ring. Jullie used size 50 (wow) and managed to tat the split chain. Well done, everyone!

Rei brought a surprise for us. Guess what? Hint: Notice the box on the left of the table in the first photo. And what's Rei very good at ? Have you got it ?

By the time we left the restaurant, it was evening. Outside - why was everyone staring up and taking photos ?

Rainbow! There wasn't really any rain earlier, and although it was already getting late and dark, it was a beautiful one painted across the sky. A great ending to our little gathering!

Gift for Regina, Tatting Meeting and Motif No. 6/25

Last Wed was Regina's last day with our company. Here's my tatted gift for her: Dimpled Cross, pattern of Joy Botchlet found in her book Tatting Dimpled Rings.

And on Fri, we had dinner with Sheila Dutton (my tatting teacher), Julie and Agnes. Sheila brought and showed us plastic shuttles and handsewn silk flowers from Taiwan. Also, there were beautiful handwoven cords. They were eye-openers for us. A pity we forgot to take any photo of our meeting. Anyway, my girls, Joey and Kristine, were simply delighted with Julie's gifts.

And finally I managed to finish the 1st of my animals. I'm not too satisified with it especially the head, and I took real long with this. This will be Motif No. 6/25, Barney, tatted with Flora 20 threads. Why Barney ? Well, it's Joey's favourite.

Tatting Meet Up and Motif No. 2/25

Finally got to meet Aileen and Julie in person. Invited them over to my mother's house for a simple meal on 14 Mar evening. After dinner, we spent our time going through my tatting albums and shuttles and Aileen's tatted works. Julie is more into crocheting amigurumi than tatting, a pity she did not bring her amis to show, but we had our feast on the ami photos on her camera. We didn't do any tatting, just chatting away, though Julie brought her tatting project on hand to ask for assistance. Looking forward to seeing your tatted bag, Julie!

And here's Motif No. 2/25 that I came up with - Vanda Miss Joaquim, tatted with Flora 20 threads:

This hybrid was first discovered in the garden of Miss Agnes Joaquim in 1893. The Vanda Miss Joaquim was proclaimed the national flower of Singapore on 15 Apr 1981. It was selected from 40 other contenders, including some 30 orchids, particularly because of its hardy and resilient qualities and its ability to bloom throughout the year, the characteristics to reflect Singapore's quest for progress and excellence in all aspects of life.

I originally intended to tat this for Vicki's Mar bookmark as part of the International Round Robin. But then, I thought it doesn't look quite like a bookmark. Hopefully I can come up with something else for Vicki within the next 2 weeks.
